Paver Patios and Installation Process
What are Interlocking pavers?
By knowing what are interlocking pavers, you will appreciate the style and functionality of interlocking concrete paving that originated from Roman architecture. Nowadays the interlocking pavers is very common and durable products, it's not like regular concrete made, a strong hydraulic compression with high PSI making them solid and durable normally with proper installation it won't crack easy like stamp concrete. it considers non permanent installation which you can replace or repair easier in the future, There are 2 different type of installations which called Open Grade or Dense Grade.
Open Grade is better for area with drainage situation or Cold climate, Freezing during winter time can make them shift away little over time. but it can be fixed with joint sands or just part of area.
Dense Grade is old school method installation with road base compacted and bedding sand to level the surface which is good for warmer area
Permeable Paver Installation
The Clean Gravel will use for base installation, Which makes the Paver patio Solid and never develop any Problems in the Futures, The Base Gravel help water drain underneath the patio, best practices to use for Driveway Or raised Patio, The Labor and Materials are way more than the regular method with dense grade something you might need to consider and Set budget for it.
Regular Paver Installation
4" The Base is using Aggregate or Crushed Stones, and Regular Concrete sand use for Bedding Sand to level top Pavers, This is Simple Method to get it installed Which cheaper compare to Open Grade. but it good for Walkway or Flat surface Patio install about the ground level, Contact our certified installer at viewpoint landscapes and we will explain both methods .
The Installation Process
Design and Plans
Whenever we get the approved from customer to process the works. the design plan will be ready. the Installer will measure the areas and make sure there's no obstacle and anything on the way for machines access, clear up the area for the next step. Our Design teams will test the soil to see if the patio need to excavate deeper or not
We will Schedule with Utility Company to locate all the buried Cables underground where the patio will be excavated. There might be an Extra cost for labor if the utility is less than 2 feet where it marked, hand digging required.
The Areas must be clear for the bobcat skidsteer access to clear up the existing Concrete Where the new paver patio will be built
After demolition, The Excavation needs it for this step, this is important step to construct the patio, we will Excavate 12" below the surface ( for driveway vehicular application ) and 8" ( for Pedestrian application ) from the final Grade.
Grading the Patio
For every 10ft we will grade 2.5" ( 2%) to make sure water drain Properly, and it required by ICPI installation
The Subsoil needs to be compacted with heavy duty compactor Required ( 7000 contrifigured force , can be done with Jumping jack or Heavy Duty Plate Compactors.
The Geotextile is a Sheet of Fabric, That will hold keep the base gravel separate and it won't saturate with the soil in the future .
Raise the Patio with Stone Blocks
if it is a raised patio , This step must be required to get it to final level, More gravel need it depends how high the patio will be.
Apply Clean gravels or Aggregate
The Install crews will fill up the base with Gravels , Either with wheel barrow, Small Skid steer or Bobcat , 4" is minimum base needed for regular installation. for every 100sqft pavers . We will have to carry 3 tons of gravels to fill it up
We will re-compact after gravel filled up to make sure to base is solid.
Installing Stone Chip or Bedding Sand
After the Compaction . The Team will use the laser level to make sure its good enough for 1" bedding sand or chips to level the top
Deliver Pavers to the Areas
Crews will deliver and Carry the Pavers to where the Patio will be , and Its ready to install
The teams will level the bedding sand and Install the Pavers , Slowly from layer to layer until finish the entire patios,
Shape the Border
The Paver will be laid and Cut to fit the areas , Demo saw needed for this step .
This step might take longer depends on square or curve patios , For the Patio requires alot of cutting that will cost more labor and more stone waste than patio with less cut .
Clear up the Edge of Patios
All the Edge of Patio must be cleared so We can get the concrete edgings or Plastic Edgings Install . This called Edge Restraint , The stable the edge restraint the longer it keeps the patio pavers from shifting away or sinking around the edge
After installing the edge, We will get the final compaction with plastic underneath of compactor to Compact the top of Pavers and make sure the pavers are looking perfect the way we want it . ready for poly joint sand next step.
Clean Up All Cut Stones , Power Wash the Entire Patio
All The Pavers will be Washed
Apply Poly Joint sand
Final Step, The joint sand will be applied to seal the joint between Pavers, Broom will be used with this step and the Blower to make sure it all sealed and cleaned
Water The Sand
Spray Patio with Water to wet the sands it will be solid the next day.
All the steps must be done correctly in order to keep the patio solid and strong .
